For 20 years, Women for Conservation founder Sara Lara has been advocating for women’s rights to family planning. Over this time, we have seen a transformation in women and their partner’s perception of these services; they have increasingly come to prioritize the ability to decide. In rural areas, campaigns like these are profoundly moving. Many families desire to have access to family planning but barriers such as the remoteness of their villages and cost make it extremely difficult. We have held hundreds of campaigns like this one since our founding, giving thousands of women the care they deserve and creating an enormous impact on rural families and communities.

On August 24th, we held a family planning brigade in Palmor, Colombia: a small coffee-farming village in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. 46 women attended, some of whom walked for four hours from their homes to get there.

For these women, this event represented freedom. When women have access to family planning, they can protect their personal health and have children only when they are ready, setting themselves and their children up for success and allowing them to pursue their dreams and healthy lives.

Watch the video below to see why we do what we do, and why it’s so important that we continue to support women’s right to choose if and when to have a family—for their health, their family’s health, and the health of the planet.

A big THANKS to YOU. Your love, generosity, and kindness are transforming the lives of women who are ready to embrace new opportunities, shape their own futures, and create a better way of living for themselves, their families, and their communities.
