Women for Conservation returned for the second time to the community of Pueblo Bello, in the north of Colombia, to bring family planning services to rural and Indigenous women. (ICFP) in Bogotá, Colombia.

The initiative, developed with a community-based approach prioritizing respect for women's autonomy, expanded access to long-acting contraceptive methods in a territory historically marginalized from reproductive health services.

On this occasion, 30 women underwent the insertion of the Jadelle subdermal implant, a safe, effective, and reversible method. In addition, four procedures were performed to replace previous implants with new ones. The medical team carried out two post-operative check-ups on women from the community who underwent the Pomeroy procedure earlier in November in Santa Marta, ensuring continuous support and proper monitoring of their health.

Most of the participants belong to the Arhuaca indigenous community, who expressed the importance of receiving guidance and access to contraceptive methods that meet their needs, lifestyles, and personal decisions.

These services, including implants, medical procedures, and the logistics needed to reach the territory, were fully covered by Women for Conservation, thanks to the support of donors and people who make it possible for these events to reach those who need them most.

For Sara Lara, executive director of Women for Conservation, our return to Pueblo Bello exemplifies the organization's commitment to women in remote areas: “For us, it is essential to reach those who need it most. Every woman who can access these services in her own territory is a step forward towards her autonomy, her well-being, and the comprehensive protection of her rights.

Women for Conservation will continue to strengthen these brigades in rural and indigenous areas, ensuring that more women have access to timely, quality information, and support through their family planning journey.
