A major achievement in strengthening environmental education in the Heart of the World – the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta! Women for Conservation has signed a significant agreement with the Rural Educational Institution Bodega Palestina, located in Ciénaga, Magdalena. This partnership aims to instill a strong sense of environmental awareness and conservation among students and educators, fostering sustainable ecological practices in the region.

Through this collaboration, educational activities, interactive workshops, and awareness programs will be implemented to help students and teachers understand the importance of protecting local ecosystems. Additionally, the initiative will encourage active community participation in environmental restoration projects and the conservation of endangered species.

“This agreement marks a crucial step in shaping new generations committed to environmental conservation. We want children and young people to become agents of change within their communities, contributing to the protection of the Sierra Nevada’s biodiversity,” said Isabella Cortés, Co-founder of Women for Conservation.

Meanwhile, staff and teachers of the Rural Educational Institution Bodega Palestina emphasized the importance of this partnership in strengthening classroom education through a practical and participatory approach, ensuring that acquired knowledge translates into concrete actions for environmental protection.

Since 2024, Isabella Cortés has been leading various initiatives in the region, such as the creation of a community mural, a storytelling contest, and family planning brigades.

This initiative reaffirms our commitment to environmental education and the empowerment of young people and children in local communities to defend their natural heritage. This agreement will serve as a model for future collaborations that promote respect and protection for the environment in other areas of the country.
