This past Earth Day, Women for Conservation was honored to be included in the inaugural grant round of the Superbloom Fund for Women and Nature, alongside eight other global organizations working tirelessly to raise up women and protect nature. This grant honors W4C’s community-based conservation approach – empowering rural and Indigenous women to become leading protectors of the world’s most endangered habitats and species

The funding will deepen and scale our proven model to multiply impact through several areas of our work:

– Strengthening our women-led monitoring networks that promote women’s participation in science, support sustainable livelihoods, and contribute to scientific knowledge of little-studied endangered species in the remote forests of Colombia.

– Bolster our nature-based sustainable livelihoods initiatives focused on critical habitat restoration and responsibly made products.

– Amplify our environmental education programs that inspire the next generation of conservation scientists by building the capacity of rural schools to teach about environmental stewardship and native species.

– Provide seed funding to grassroots, women-led organizations within our network that are carrying out mission-driven and transformative projects at the frontlines of conservation.

About the Superbloom Fund

The Superbloom Fund was co-founded by Dr. Rebecca Kormos, author of

Intertwined: Women, Nature, and Climate Justice,

National Geographic Explorer, and Senior Associate at Re:wild, and Kristine Zeigler, co-founder and former CEO of Planet Women with 25 years of experience in philanthropy at prominent conservation nonprofits. They saw a gap in funding for women-led conservation organizations – and started the Superbloom Fund to fill that gap. They know that when women are decision-makers in conservation, they develop community-informed, deeply impactful, and long lasting solutions, shifting away from the model of top-down conservation that the world has relied on for so long. “Women on the frontlines of conservation are not only protecting species and ecosystems—they are safeguarding the future of entire communities.

The Superbloom Fund is an investment in these extraordinary women whose leadership, resilience, and deep connection to nature create lasting change where it matters most: on the ground.” — Sara Lara, Founder & President, Women for Conservation

This groundbreaking moment represents a network of women uplifting one another, on both the big-picture and the community-level scale. We are profoundly grateful to Dr. Kormos, Kristine Zeigler, and the Superbloom Advisory team for their trailblazing work.
