Women Leading Reforestation

Women Leading Reforestation: A New Alliance for Conservation

At Women for Conservation, we have joined forces with ProAves and Fondation Franklinia in the Magnolia Project, a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to restoring ecosystems by identifying, monitoring, and replanting threatened magnolia species in Colombia. This project not only contributes to the conservation of these iconic trees but also strengthens women’s leadership in nursery work and ecological restoration near ProAves Reserves.

The Magnolia Project was launched in response to rapid deforestation and climate change, which have driven several magnolia species endemic to Colombia toward extinction. These trees play a crucial role in the ecosystem, providing food and shelter for diverse wildlife. However, habitat loss has drastically reduced their populations, threatening their long-term survival.

Women Leading Reforestation

Women for Conservation plays a key role in this initiative by leading nursery operations and engaging local women in cultivating magnolia seedlings for reforestation. This not only supports ecological restoration but also advances gender equality by offering women hands-on experience in nursery management and conservation.

By empowering women as guardians of these ecosystems, the Magnolia Project fosters a deeper connection between local communities and environmental stewardship. Their involvement ensures greater success in forest restoration efforts while serving as a model for inclusive, sustainable conservation.

Through this initiative, Women for Conservation and ProAves reaffirm their commitment to protecting biodiversity and promoting women leading reforestation. By working together and fostering active community participation, we aspire for the Magnolia Project to become a benchmark for forest restoration and women’s empowerment in conservation efforts.
