Women Leading the Fight to Save Endangered Species
Endangered Species Day | May 16, 2025
On this Endangered Species Day, Women for Conservation celebrates something powerful: Hope. In a world where biodiversity is vanishing at an alarming rate and funding for endangered species is being slashed, hope blooms through the courage and leadership of grassroots women conservationists around the world. Thanks to your support—especially our sustaining monthly donors—these women are rewriting the future for wildlife on the brink.

🌍 In Sierra Leone: Trees, Chimpanzees, and a Powerful Sisterhood
Over 200 women from our partner communities in Sierra Leone are spearheading a reforestation movement to protect the endangered Western Chimpanzee and elusive Pygmy Hippopotamus. Together, they’ve planted more than 3,000 fruit and native trees, restoring critical habitat while improving food security for their families. Through sustainable forestry training, eco-friendly cooking stove initiatives, and agroforestry education, these women are not only guardians of the forest—they’re builders of a climate-resilient future.

🐒 In Madagascar: Lemur Guardians on Two Wheels
For the past three years, six remarkable women forest rangers have been protecting the iconic Baobab Alley and safeguarding endangered lemurs. These women patrol vast forest corridors, educate local communities, and report threats to biodiversity. This year, with your help, we gifted each ranger a bicycle—tripling their patrol range and allowing them to cover more ground in their life-saving work.

🦜 In Colombia: Women Scientists Rise for the Rainforest
This month, we’re interviewing early-career women scientists for our 2025 Women in Science Scholarship. Five brilliant minds will receive funding to carry out conservation fieldwork in Colombia’s Magdalena Rainforest. One scholar will research the endangered Blue-billed Curassow (Crax alberti), while others will study endemic birds, amphibians, and reptiles. By funding these women, you’re not only helping conserve rare species—you’re growing the next generation of scientific leaders in biodiversity hotspots.
💚 To Our Donors: Thank You for Planting Seeds of Hope
These victories are only possible because of you. Each tree planted, each animal protected, each woman empowered—none of it would happen without the generous hearts of people like you. A special shoutout to our monthly donors: your consistent support gives us the stability we need to grow these programs and respond in real time to urgent conservation needs.
In this era of environmental uncertainty, hope is a choice. It’s a woman planting a seedling in Sierra Leone. A ranger biking through Madagascar’s forests at dawn. A Colombian scientist kneeling in the rainforest, studying endangered birds to protect them from extinction.
🕊️ This Endangered Species Day, commit to hope. Commit to action. Join us as a monthly donor and help women around the world defend Earth’s most threatened wildlife.
